Our Students - Year 1 Room 13

In term 2, we have been learning about number bonds. A number bond is a mental picture of the relationship between a number and the parts that combine to make it. The concept of number bonds is very basic, an important foundation for understanding how numbers work. A whole thing is made up of parts. We had a fun and engaging lesson learning different parts which make a whole.

We had to pick some coloured Unifix Cube to start making our number bonds to 10. We also learnt how to write a number sentence which equals to 10. We discussed how number bonds would be used in real life situation. It can be helpful during mental maths for quick calculations and adding and subtracting bigger numbers.

Teaching Philosophy

As a teacher, I aim to create an atmosphere that encourages curiosity and sheer determination. Our classroom is a place where students feel important, respected, cared for and believed in. I am a teacher who makes it possible for her students to reach their full potential, ask questions, learn from their mistakes, give and receive feedback, create and try their best. In our classroom, real world problems are solved and each student believes that they can make a difference in this world. Together, we celebrate each other’s success and inspire each other to be the best person that we can be.
